Abstract: Items of ancestors of Bessie Heath Daniel (b.
1886) of Person County, N.C.: three account books; a
cipher book, 1829-1841; an "album of rememberance,"
Warrenton Female Collegiate Institute, Warrenton,
N.C., 1857-1858; and pages of family data from a
family Bible. Two of the account books, 1854-1860,
are of J. A. Lunsford and Bros., general merchants of
High Hill, Person County. The third account book is
apparently of Campbell Barnett, merchant of Person
County; it includes a list, 1813-1864, of slave names
and birth dates.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Bessie Heath Daniel was born in 1886, the daughter of Lewis
Heath Daniel (1850-1934) and Sallie A. (Barnett) Daniel (d.
1916). Bessie H. Daniel's maternal grandfather was Campbell
Barnett. For additional family information see Volume 3 (Daniel
Family Bible) of FLAT RIVER PRIMITIVE BAPTIST CHURCH RECORDS
(#1817).
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
According to the donors, these items were inherited by Bessie
Heath Daniel and relate to her ancestors.
Folder 1 (only). "Family Record" pages, presumably removed from
family Bibles. There are two sets, each consisting of four
pages. Family names include Ward, Bacon, Lamkin, Gregory,
Edwards, and Scott. Dates of births, marriages, and deaths
recorded range from 1753 to 1886.
Volume 1. Account book, 1856-1862, apparently of Campbell
Barnett, Person County, North Carolina, listing
merchandise sold and payments received. Arrangment of
entries is by name of customer. Also included are a muster
roll (1862?) for Company A, 35th Battalion of Home Guards
and a list of names and birth dates for slaves born
1813-1864. (Also available on microfilm.)
Volume 2. Account book, 1854, 1858-1860, of J. A. Lunsford, and
Bros., dry goods merchants, High Hill, Person County,
North Carolina. Entries, for suppliers from whom
merchandise was purchased, are arranged chronologically.

Carolina. Entries, for customers, are arranged
chronologically.
Volume 4. Cipher book, ca. 1829-1841, perhaps of Allen Lunsford,
Person County, North Carolina, about 350 pages.
Volume 5. "Album of Remembrance, 1857-1858, of Carrie Scott,
Warrenton Female Collegiate Institute, Warrenton, North
Carolina, consisting of brief messages from teachers and
fellow students.
