Phelps Cemetery
Location: Jones Road (SR ) near Orange County
Directions: Jones Road starts at Wheelers Church Road. From Roxboro take Hurdle Mills Road or 49S to Wheelers Church Road. Turn on Jones Road beside Wheeler's Church.
Access: Visible from road 1000 ft down farm road on left.

The information below was provided by W Lathan Phelps. It is not the result of a survey of the Phelps Cemetery, but rather of Phelps genealogy research. Much of this research was done by the late Margaret Burton Woods, 20 Apr 1930 - 23 Sept 1992. Other information was added by Ruth Phelps Monk and Katheleen Phelps Parker. This information has been added here because it may be helpful to those reseaching the Phelps line.

The two fieldstones in the cemetery are thought to be the graves of the following:

7. Ephraim PHELPS b. 1849 no death date s/o Thomas Haywood Phelps

8. Infant PHELPS 27 Feb 1927- 27 Feb 1927 s/o Lewis Elmo Phelps & Catherine James Walker

Other likely unmarked graves in this cemetery include:

- Thomas Haywood PHELPS 1812- 1888 (no stone)

- Thomas PHELPS Sr 1768 -1849 (no stone) (first wife was Mary PASS, no burial data;  second wife was Mary(Polly) Jane McKissack 19 Aug 1806 - 12 Nov 1882 who is buried at Salem UMC cemetery.)

- Anderson Locket PHELPS 11 Jan 1843 - 19 Jan 1901 (no stone)

- Henry (Butch) Locket LONG, Sr. 31 Mar 1921 - 15 Nov 1985 (cremated- ashes buried beside parents, Tessie Phelps & James (Jim) Long according to his wife, Annie Virginia Porterfield)

- Sophronia Blackwell b. 1827 d. unknown (second wife of Anderson Locket Phelps)

- Susan P Blackwell - burial unknown (first wife of Anderson Locket Phelps)
